Marketing in the sense of selling products to consumers is not a very old concept. In ancient times, only wealthy people could afford certain products and it was shared from generation to generation.

The concept of marketing was born in the industrial revolution, when products became cheap enough to be shared by everyone. This is why some products that were once expensive have become cheap today.

Marketing is important for the following reasons: 1) It enables products to be sold at a profit, even though the cost of production might be less than that price.

2) It increases the consumption of certain products, which might be useful or harmful, as desired by the producers.

3) It hides the cost of production from the consumers, so that they don't realize how much work and resources were put into making a product.

4) It misleads consumers into buying products that they don't need, by creating the illusion of necessity.
