We are all self-aware creatures. Some of us have more awareness than others, but we still possess some kind of understanding that we exist as individuals and that our existence is limited to a certain period. We have experienced life through the course of time, and thus know what it means to be alive in this universe.
We all strive to achieve various goals in life. Some of these goals are short term, others are long term. We try to fulfill those goals that we believe will bring us the most amount of happiness and satisfaction.
As we strive to fulfill our goals, we understand that certain things are necessary for us to achieve those goals. We need food and water to sustain ourselves, shelter from the elements and so on. When these necessities are not met, whether it be by design or circumstance of life's actions, we feel unhappy as a result.
This is a rule followed by all living things. Humans, animals, insects and so on. We've been around for hundreds of thousands of years and we still live in the same way as our ancient ancestors did.
However, we also have a desire to be happy. For most of us, being happy means achieving our goals and living the life that we want. We understand this as an objective fact in life.
As we strive to achieve our goals, we also understand that in order to do so, certain things are required of us. We must be hard working people who work towards their ambitions and desires.
The methods of this world are distasteful. We want to make things better, we have goals in life, but the environment is such that it makes those jobs much less pleasant. I think psychology has a lot to do with it, but there is also an economic factor and a sociologic one too.
The types of people we are attracted to in a partner determine who would be the best person for us to reproduce with. This is based on evolutionary factors and past experiences that make it seem as though this is the right thing to do. We want friends that are similar so we have things in common, but our childhoods have been influenced by other factors too.
The top of Maslow's chart is meant to be the most important thing, but in this world it is not. The things below are needed before you can reach that level of awareness, which requires a very particular set of circumstances and experience.
It's interesting because the top of Maslow's chart is what we all want, but it takes for granted that you have experienced some things before.
Humans are very complicated, and the Maslow chart is supposed to represent this. The fact that it doesn't means something about humans.
The top of Maslow's chart is indeed the reason no one has it, and why people are unhappy. I think that we should continue to try for it despite this.
