The wisdom of Age

Human societies are very interesting. They seem to be made up of many different groups, often at odds with each other. I am not sure if this is a feature or bug though, but firstly it may help the human race survive and secondly it may be an essential feature of humanity's ability to explore new worlds.
Humans are also highly individualistic, perhaps to the point of nihilism. Their belief in social change or progress is ultimately a reflection on their own growth as individuals and not necessarily anything more than that.
The human race also seems to be very long lived. Some humans, such as Socrates and Plato for example, have been around for thousands of years.
I think this longevity helps humans to be more objective and features such as 'the wisdom of age' may lead them to develop a better understanding of the world around them.
However, humans seem to be quite susceptible to corruption and infection from outside sources as well. For example the internet is often cited as a source of this corruption.
Humans are also quite prone to prejudice and bigotry. Although they may be long lived, they seem to have a burning desire for relationships of all kinds, which helps them exist.
