Musings -Are you Creative?

I must say that I am at a loss to describe what a creative person is. The word “creative” is ambiguous with many meanings, but the most common one seems to be making art or producing something of aesthetic value. This definition is too narrow for my liking.

My first thought is where do you draw the line between creative and uncreative people? For example, if someone writes a novel, would that person count as a creative person or not? I think this question can be answered by looking at whether or not the product of an individual's labors are valued in their society. I am interested to know what kind of value we humans place on creativity. Is it something that we praise our fellow human beings for having or something else entirely? If an author writes a book but no one reads it, is he still considered creatively productive in your eyes?

I am also curious to know what kind of traits we associate with creativity. For example, are there certain personality characteristics that many creative people share? I suppose a defining characteristic of a creative person is someone who comes up with new ideas and solutions to problems, which might be why so many artists tend to have artistic personalities. Are you one of these creative souls? Well then I better check your profile real quick.

Even a world class artist like Michelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci was not truly creative. They were just fortunate to be born with an innate ability that allowed them to create something of beauty.

If we consider all the people who at some point in their life have produced something of aesthetic value, then there are far more creative people than those who create works that stand the test of time. A painting or a song may be good when it is created but then it ages and becomes obscure.

I do not think that people are creative in the sense that they can produce something of value out of nothing. In fact, it seems to me that creativity is a matter of inspiration more than anything else.

If we take the word “creative” to mean coming up with new ideas, then I think that anyone can be creative. But being creative and acting on your creativity are two different things.

For example, people who are creative in the sense of coming up with new ideas but do not act on them are just dreamers. They live in a world of their own and think that they can change things by thoughts alone.

There are many examples of creativity in the fields of science and technology. Historically, advances in scientific knowledge have often been driven by creative insight.

Researchers in the field of artificial intelligence have been working for years to develop creative systems. In recent times, there has been a lot of interest in creativity from different fields.

In an attempt to achieve artificial creativity, researchers have developed a number of different models. For example, neural networks have been used for years in creative applications.

Artificial neural networks are systems of interconnected computer processors that implement a form of learning, called supervised learning.

For example, in a typical neural network used for image recognition, there are two main layers: an input layer and an output layer. The input layer takes the form of many small processing units that extract certain features from the image.

Creativity is like a rich, creamy topping on a deliciously decadent cake. It's not the whole cake and never could be but it makes up one hell of an enjoyable part of it.
