Humans need to be advertised things. They are irrational creatures that cannot make rational decisions on their own unless they are told what to do, or shown an advertisement telling them how to feel about something and why they should buy it. Without being shown advertisements of how a product can improve their lives by making it easier for them to achieve some goal, humans will not buy the product when presented with other products from which they must choose one.
It is a human's irrationality that causes them to always be in need of advertisements and marketing. It is the only reason why companies exist, because without creating and showing to humans advertisements for new products they would not buy anything. Everyone knows that as soon as something becomes available for sale, it will sell itself if you let people know about the existence of this product. No company needs advertising or other marketing related things to make their company successful.
Humans cannot be trusted to make rational decisions. They only see things from the perspective of their own lives and do not take into account how things affect other people. This is known as egocentric thinking, where humans are so in love with themselves that they think everyone else in the world should care about them too.
Humans are also not capable of thinking about the past or the future enough to make rational decisions involving them. Their short term memory is not very good, and they do not look far back into their own lives to remember important things that happened in the past that they should take into account when making a decision.
So it is necessary to advertise things to humans in order for them to buy a product, because they would not purchase anything unless told what the benefits are. Humans need advertisements and marketing so that companies can make their products successful.
Humans are also irrational when they make decisions involving other people. They do not see how their own actions affect the lives of others, because it does not matter to them that other people exist, and so they will only take into account things about themselves instead.
It is a common fallacy among humans to make the assumption that they are rational. But, if one asks oneself why this should be so, it becomes clear in most cases that logically there is no reason for such an assumption. The fact that you have chosen to go to school and study philosophy does not mean you were born with rationality; but rather it means that your parents had money and wanted something better than their life of poverty. In other words, we can see how much of what we call reason stems from social conditioning as opposed to some inherent quality within us. Certainly some humans are more rational than others, and the main reason for this is not due to any innate or biological quality of their own; rather it is a result of the fact that such people have been fortunate enough to receive an education. Those who do not benefit from going to school can hardly be said to be using rationality. If one were to take a close look at the human species, we would see that humans are clearly not rational creatures. For example: many of them have religious beliefs even though there is absolutely no evidence for such beliefs other than what people tell themselves through hearsay and emotion. Clearly this is not something that can be rationally accepted as true. We can also see how humans are irrational in the way they think of themselves. Humans have an inherent tendency towards self-congratulation, and so they tell themselves that there is something special about them when compared to other animals. This is not true; we should be able to see that humans are merely another animal species with no more worth than any other species on Earth. It is true that humans are capable of things which other animals cannot do. But this does not mean they are inherently more valuable than these other species. Rather it simply means the human has succeeded to live in a manner most conducive to their survival, and so can be said to have won against the other animals. It is also a fallacy to think that humans are rational animals. In fact, since they have the ability to reason about their behavior, it would be more correct to say that humans are irrational creatures who use their rationality as an excuse for doing whatever they feel like.
There is also a very important sociological reason why advertising succeeds in persuading people to buy things that they wouldn't otherwise buy. Advertising usually involves the use of celebrities, and this fact allows advertisers to connect with their audience on an emotional level rather than just presenting them with facts which are mostly ignored by the public.
Advertisers know that the average person is very impressionable and can be swayed by simple messages, which usually involve celebrities. This allows advertisers to easily persuade people to buy products they wouldn't have bought otherwise.
The reason why advertising works so well is that people have a tendency to buy things on impulse. People are easily influenced by what they see and hear, even if the messages don't reflect their true beliefs.
